WhatsApp messages can prove to be embarrassing when your smartphone is with someone’s else, especially images and videos. For example, say you have given your smartphone to a friend to click photographs. To view the images after clicking, your friend taps on gallery and all personal images and videos that you have received on WhatsApp pops out making you red-faced. While there is an easy hack to prevent WhatsApp media files from appearing under ‘Gallery’ but very few people seem to know about it.
WhatsApp has now added a new feature to allow users to hide WhatsApp media files from appearing under ‘Gallery’. In WhatsApp, head to ‘Settings’ and tap on ‘Chats’. A new option called ‘Media visibility’ is added. By default this is turned-off. This means that media files that you receive over WhatsApp will not be shown in ‘Gallery’. However, if you wish to have all downloaded WhatsApp media files to appear in ‘Gallery’ then you will have to turn it on. Interestingly the new feature can be used to customise media visibility preferences for particular chats as well.
On a related note, WhatsApp will soon allow users to select a sticker reaction from a dedicated ‘Stickers View’. There will be a heart-shaped icon on top corner in the window, tapping on which will show you all the categories. WhatsApp has been rumoured to roll-out stickers very soon but there hasn’t been any official new about it. As spotted by WABetainfo, the website that keeps a track on upcoming features on WhatsApp and FB Messenger, the work on Sticker reactions started with Android beta app version 2.18.120. The feature has been removed from the latest Android beta WhatsApp version – 2.18.189. There is no particular launch date mentioned for this feature.
